We are now down to the final four in the NFL playoffs. Championship Sunday is going to be a good one. The two games consist of teams that are evenly matched and familiar with each other. This Sunday will be a chance to sit down and relax for approximately seven hours and just watch football. By the end of the day, we will know who is going to be playing in Super Bowl XLV. Last week I did pretty good with my picks. I went 3-1 and would have gone for 4-0 if it weren't for those trash-talking New York Jets. My playoff picks record is now 5-3. I think for sure I'll go 2-0 this week, we'll have to wait until Sunday to find out for sure though. Happy football watching!
Packers at Bears: Bears
In the NFC Championship Game I'm going with the Chicago Bears to beat the Green Bay Packers. Most people in the sports world are picking the Packers to win and rightfully so. Their quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been hot the past month and their defense is playing great football. Quietly I think the Bears have been sitting back waiting for this rematch. In Week 17, the Bears shut down the Packers offense in what was a must-win game for Green Bay. Also, the Bears didn't switch up their audibles on offense in the Week 17 matchup. To be honest I think the Bears have the psychological edge over the Packers. NFC Championship games at Soldier Field are tough games because of the weather. The field in Chicago is terrible so that will slow down the Packers quick-strike passing game. I'm expecting a close and hard-fought game but at the end of the day I have to roll with Da Bears.
Jets at Steelers: Steelers
In the AFC Championship Game I'm going with the Pittsburgh Steelers to beat the New York Jets. When these two teams met in mid-December it was a great football game. I'm expecting more of the same on Sunday. Both teams are well-coached and both teams play great defense. If the Jets can win this game they would have beaten the following quarterbacks on the road en route to the Super Bowl: Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger. In my opinion those are the three best quarterback in the NFL. That's a tough task for any team. Unfortunately for the Jets, Roethlisberger is a different type of quarterback than Manning and Brady. Big Ben can make the unthinkable happen because of his combination of size, power and precision under pressure. An important note to mention is that Steelers safety Troy Polamalu didn't play in the December game against the Jets. I'm looking forward to seeing how Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez does now that Polamalu is back in the starting lineup. With all that said I expect to see Pittsburgh celebrating another trip to the Super Bowl.

DTTWSB Divisional Week Picks
Now that Wild-Card weekend is over it's time for the big boys to start playing again. The top two seeds in each conference will be hosting the playoff games this week. This is the NFL's version of the Elite Eight. In my opinion, the divisional playoff weekend is my favorite weekend in the NFL because you get four great matchups to watch. Last week there was a huge upset when the Seahawks beat the Saints. That just proves to you that anything can happen once you get to the playoffs. I was 2-2 picking games last week, hopefully I do a little bit better this time around. Where will you be when you're watching the games? Wherever it is I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Here are my picks for the divisional round.
Ravens at Steelers: Steelers
Every year there are certain games that you have circled on your football watching schedule. For me, this rivalry is somewhere in the top 3. When these two teams play it is the eptiome of football. Ground and pound hard-hitting physical football. For the second time in three years, we get a third helphing of this rivalry in one season! It's tough to beat your rival three times but this Saturday I think the Steelers will be able to pull it off. In my opinion, the Ravens offense will struggle when they're up against the Steel Curtain. Safety Troy Polamalu and those boys are coming hard. Also, I think Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will make enough plays at the end of the day to win the game. These two teams are pretty evenly matched except at the quarterback position where I give the Steelers a clear advantage. In what should be a defensive battle, the first team to score 20 points will probably win this contest. If you ask me I think that's going to be Pittsburgh.
Packers at Falcons: Packers
Oh baby this is going to be a Saturday night special. Two high-powered offenses will be taking the field when the Packers and Falcons go head-to-head. The quarterback play in this game will be phenomenal. On one side you have the Falcons Matt Ryan and on the other side you have the Packers Aaron Rodgers. Both whom are great young quarterbacks. This game is going to come down to which team makes the least mistakes because both have excellent playmaking ability. With that said, I'm picking the number six seeded Green Bay Packers to walk into the Georgia Dome and beat the number one seeded Atlanta Falcons. I just think the Packers are the hottest team in all of football and will be playing loose come Saturday night. The last time the Falcons played a quality opponent they lost at home. The Packers have been pretty much playing playoff football since they lost to the New England Patriots in December. The first quarter will tell us a lot about how this game is going to go. If you see the Falcons starting off slow don't be shocked if the Packers have a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter. Give me Rodgers and the Packers in this one.
Seahawks at Bears: Bears
The feel-good story of the week has definitely been the Seattle Seahawks. They were 10-point underdogs last Saturday when they took on the Saints at home! I don't think we've ever seen that happen. This week should be another tough test for them when they have to travel to the Windy City and take on the Chicago Bears. In my opinion, this game comes down to Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. This guys has two personalities. Midway Jay is the guy we saw light up the Jets defense, but Badd Cutler (oh and bad needed two d's because that's how bad he can be at times) is the guy we saw lay a stinker againts the Patriots. If we see Midway Jay the Bears will win by multiple scores. What scares all Bears fans is that if we see Badd Cutler on Sunday then the Bears will be out of the playoffs. One thing that will be interesting is that the Seahawks will be playing loose since nobody expects them to win, kind of like last week. If they can start fast they will be able to put some real pressure on Chicago. At the end of the day I think the Bears defense is too good to let the Seahawks shred them the way they shredded New Orleans last Saturday. It was a nice run for the Hawks but the clock will strike Midnight this Sunday in Chicaog.
Jets at Patriots: Patriots
This is the game that I am most excited for this weekend. The New York Jets have been talking a lot of smack about the Patriots during the week. You've got to believe that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has pulled a page out Miami Heat Forward LeBron James' playbook and decided to take "mental notes" this week. Once the ball is kicked all that matters between the white lines is execution. No team executes better in the league than the New England Patritots, especially when they have two weeks to prepare. This week the media has been talking about how the Patriots should easily win this game but I don't see it. That Monday night massacre was not a realistic measure of how these teams compare. You best believe the Jets are going to give the Patriots their best shot. At the end of the day I just don't think it's going to be enough. I just don't see Tom Brady losing a home playoff game, especially to a heated division rival. In what should be a damn good game, I like the Patriots to barely win. I have one eye open while I'm making this pick though.
Ravens at Steelers: Steelers

DTTWSB NFL Wild-Card Week Picks
The moment we have all been waiting for, the playoffs are finally here! Now it's truly do or die for all NFL teams. The playoffs separates the men from the boys in my opinion. It separates contender from pretender. In the last week of the season I went 11-5 with my picks which brought my final regular season record to 158-98. That has me in a tie for third in comparison to the ESPN NFL experts. Now the regular season is over, I'm looking to go perfect in the playoffs by carefully analyzing each game. Here we go with my Wild-Card weekend picks!
Saints at Seahawks: Saints
All the pressure in the world will be on the Saints up until kickoff when it comes to this game. If they can jump on Seattle quickly that pressure would definitely shift to the Seahawks. That's what I think is going to happen. I'm hoping for a good game but I having a hard time seeing how it will be close. The Saints have a better offense and defense, better quarterback and better head coach. The only thing the Seahawks have on their side is the 12th man and the possibilty of inclement weather. What people are forgetting is that fans and weather don't win games, players and coaches do. I like the Saints to advance.
Jets at Colts: Jets
In the Saturday night game we have a rematch of last year's AFC Championship game. It's going to be the ultimate chess match when the Colts offense and Jets defense are on the field. I cannot wait to see what Jets head coach Rex Ryan has in store for Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. Although that's going to be highly entertaining, everyone seems to forget that the Colts defense has to attempt to stop the Jets offense. The Jets are coming with a great running game and big play ability in the passing game. That combination is dangerous in the playoffs. The Jets are also feeling a bit disrespected that very few are picking them to win. A team playing with something to prove this time of the year is deadly.
Ravens at Chiefs: Ravens
Like the Seahawks, it's going to be hard for the Chiefs to pull off the upset. They're just facing a team that is superior to them in my opinion. The easiest way to beat the Chiefs is to stop the run and that's exactly what the Ravens do best. I could see Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel having to put the ball up 35 to 40 times to try and get back into the game and that's a recipe for disaster when Ravens safety Ed Reed will be lurking. Baltimore's offense should be able to move the ball down the field on the Chiefs defense. If the Ravens can finish those drives with touchdowns instead of field goals there is no reason why they shouldn't have this game in the bag by the start of the 4th quarter.
Packers at Eagles: Eagles
In my opinion this is the Wild-Card week game of the week. These two teams are evenly matched, and some people will even tell you that they're the two best teams in the entire NFC. In Week 1 these teams played each other but that was when Kevin Kolb was starting for the Eagles at quarterback. You have to believe that things will be different when Michael Vick is starting this Sunday. It will be intriguing to see the type of things the Packers defense tries to do to stop Vick. That zone blitz schem will slow him down at times, but at the end of the day I think Vick and the Eagles will come out on top. They have too many weapons offensively. Right now the Packers are hot but they have a very questionable running game. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is going to have to play a flawless game for them to win. This will be a close one that might even go to overtime. My gut is just telling me to take the Eagles in this one.
DTTWSB NFL Regular Season Team/Player Awards
With the regular season now to a close, it's time for the first edition of the Down To The Wire Sports Blog Awards! These awards are going out to players and teams that I believe deserve them. The entertaining part is that they aren't as conventional as the awards the NFL has. There will be someones that you guys recognize but some others that I came up with on my own. With that being said, here are the regular season award winners!!
Most Valuable Player: Tom Brady
I don't think anyone would disagree with me when it comes to this one. Brady played with his hair on fire all year. He posted 36 touchdowns while only throwing four interceptions, those are gaudy numbers. Most importantly, his team has the best record in football. Tom Terrific had another phenomenal year, and I expect his production to continue into the postseason.
Offensive Player of the Year: Philip Rivers
Most people don't like this guy, but I'm a huge Philip Rivers fan. He is our generation's Dan Marino if you ask me. To start the season he was missing his left tackle and his number one receiver. That didn't bother Rivers though, he still put up huge numbers and quietly played the best football he's played in his career. If his team was better he might have been in the MVP conversation with Brady and Vick.
Defensive Player of the Year: Ed Reed
Future Hall of Famer Ed Reed is my pick for this award. After missing the first six games of the season Reed came back and dominated on the field. He intercepted a league-high eight passes. You would like to think that opposing quarterbacks would try and throw it away from this guy. He is the ultimate ball hawk. Just another standout year for a standout player.
Offensive Rookie of the Year: Sam Bradford
Rams quarterback Sam Bradford has been asked to do a lot more than any other rookie quarterback in recent history. Even with that he made great plays while still being smart with the football. He has emerged as one of the leaders on that young team. Brandford had the Rams one game away from hosting a home playoff game. Throughout the year he impressed me; this kid definitely has a bright future ahead of him.
Defensive Rookie of the Year: Ndamukong Suh
Like the MVP award, I shouldn't hear any argument for this. Suh is an absolute beast. At the defensive tackle position he had 10 sacks and even intercepted a pass. He has a high motor and plays with an old-school mean streak every Sunday. I'm prediciting that within a year we will be talking about him as one of the 10 best overall players in football.
Comeback Player of the Year: Michael Vick
There is really no other direction you can go with when it comes to this award. Vick was stunning this year. Nobody could have predicted that he could play at this level after being out of football for two years. He gave the Eagles the spark that they needed and has led them to a division championship. The game he had on Monday Night Football against the Redskins was an all-time classic. He is the most dangerous player in all of football and my Comeback Player of the Year.
Breakout Player of the Year: Arian Foster
Foster broke onto the season during Week 1 against the Colts where he ran for over 200 yards and three touchdowns. Since then, he has been a force in the league. At the end of the season Foster finished with the most yards and touchdowns of any running back. A year ago this guy was on the Texans practice squad, now he's a big-time NFL running back.
Coach of the Year: Todd Haley
I don't think anybody had the Chiefs winning the AFC West let alone eight games this season. Coach Haley has done a masterful job with those men and now has them playing in a home playoff game. He has been instrumental in the development of quarterback Matt Cassel. Haley, who is a no nonsense guy, has had the right touch when it comes to his team all year and that's why he's my coach of the year.
Biggest Surprise of the Year: Cameron Wake
This guy was a stud for the Dolphins defense all season at the linebacker position. He finished third in the league in sacks with 14. Wake, who is already in his late 20's has a bright future ahead of him. He comes off that edge real fast and is a terror for opposing offensive tackles. Let's just say he's going to get a pretty big pay day this offseason.
Biggest Disappointment of the Year: Dallas Cowboys-Minnesota Vikings
These two teams were huge disappointments in the 2010 season. Both of them were seen as Super-Bowl contenders during the offseason and they didn't even come close to making the playoffs. They both had to fire their coached mid-season and both finished with 6-10 records. For all the hype that was surrounding these teams at the beginning of the season I think everybody expected more. Classic underachievers.
Overachievers of the Year: Seattle Seahawks
In the Seahawks first year under head coach Pete Carroll they won the NFC West with a losing record. For a team that has many gaping holes they will not be able to adequately fill them because the highest draft pick they can get is pick 21. If they had lost to the Rams they probably would have been picking in the top 10. It's good for them and the fans they are in the playoffs, but I don't expect to see them anywhere near the playoffs next season.
Most Valuable Player: Tom Brady
I don't think anyone would disagree with me when it comes to this one. Brady played with his hair on fire all year. He posted 36 touchdowns while only throwing four interceptions, those are gaudy numbers. Most importantly, his team has the best record in football. DTTWSB Week 17 NFL Picks
Welcome to Week Do or Die. It's the final week to what has been a great NFL regular season. After today, 20 teams will be finished until next September unless we have a dreaded work stoppage. This is the trickiest week to pick games in my division. Every matchup is a divisional matchup and some playoff teams rest their starters so I had to take that into consideration. Last week I had one of my worst weeks picking games by going 7-9. That brought my season record to 147-93 which has me around 5th compared to the ESPN NFL experts. With all those said, it's been a great regular season; I look forward to watching and picking the playoff games. Here are my Week 17 picks.
Buccaneers at Saints: Saints
The defending champs are hot right now and will look to continue their momentum into the playoffs. At home, I expect nothing less than a win for the Saints. The Who Dat nation is alive and well and peeking at the right time.
Bears at Packers: Packers
In a do or die game for their season, the Packers will be able to take care of business at home. Since the Bears locked up the number 2 seed, I'm not sure how serious they're going to take this game. Green Bay has everything to play for so I'll take them.
Giants at Redskins: Redskins
This could head coach Tom Coughlin's last game coaching the Giants if they don't make the playoffs. His team has lost all confidence and looks in shambles. I think they'll be able to get it together when they take on the Redskins this afternoon in D.C. It might not be enough for them to make the playoffs though.
Rams at Seahawks: Rams
For the Sunday night matchup we have the NFC West championship game coming live from Seattle. The winner advances and takes the number four seed in the NFC playoffs. I believe that St. Louis and their rookie quarterback Sam Bradford are going to walk away with a victory. Why? They're just better.
***Upset Special***
Cowboys at Eagles: Cowboys
In my upset special, I have the 5-10 Cowboys beating the 10-5 Eagles. Eagles quarterback Michael Vick isn't playing because of his bruised thigh so that means we'll see Kevin Kolb play. A lot of Cowboys players are playing to keep their jobs next season so I think we'll see a good effort from them.
The rest of the weeks picks:
Panthers at Falcons: Falcons
Steelers at Browns: Steelers
Vikings at Lions: Lions
Raiders at Chiefs: Chiefs
Dolphins at Patriots: Patriots
Bills at Jets: Jets
Bengals at Ravens: Ravens
Chargers at Broncos: Broncos
Titans at Colts: Colts
Cardinals at 49ers: 49ers
Jaguars at Texans: Texans
Buccaneers at Saints: Saints
The defending champs are hot right now and will look to continue their momentum into the playoffs. At home, I expect nothing less than a win for the Saints. The Who Dat nation is alive and well and peeking at the right time.

***Upset Special***
Cowboys at Eagles: Cowboys
In my upset special, I have the 5-10 Cowboys beating the 10-5 Eagles. Eagles quarterback Michael Vick isn't playing because of his bruised thigh so that means we'll see Kevin Kolb play. A lot of Cowboys players are playing to keep their jobs next season so I think we'll see a good effort from them.
The rest of the weeks picks:
Panthers at Falcons: Falcons
Steelers at Browns: Steelers
Vikings at Lions: Lions
Raiders at Chiefs: Chiefs
Dolphins at Patriots: Patriots
Bills at Jets: Jets
Bengals at Ravens: Ravens
Chargers at Broncos: Broncos
Titans at Colts: Colts
Cardinals at 49ers: 49ers
Jaguars at Texans: Texans
