Now that the first quarter of the NFL regular season is over, teams have a good amount of tape on each other. That also means the DTTWSB has all the tape on each team in the league. My top 10 has done a good amount of changing this past week. We saw some excellent games which led to these changes. The Detroit Lions went another week impressing me by coming back down 24 points on the road against a great opponent. If they can keep this up they'll be in the post season. With that said, here are my power rankings for the 5th week of the season.
1. Green Bay Packers (4-0): The Packers need to remain focused because they're going into the Georgia Dome to face a desperate team come Sunday night. I'm ready to go all in with this team if Aaron Rodgers can keep up this freakish play. Right now they're clearly the best team in the league.
2. Baltimore Ravens (3-1): Baltimore looked great last Sunday night even when Joe Flacco played poorly. Through the first month of the season they look like the most balanced team in the AFC. We'll see if I'm singing the same tune in January though.
3. New England Patriots (3-1): Brady and co. had a nice bounce back win against the Raiders this past Sunday. Offensively the Pats can play with the best of them; it's the defense that has me hesitant to say they're a dominate team.
4. New Orleans Saints (3-1): With Brees and that Saints offense clickin on all cyllinders it's going to be very difficult to beat them. When they're on the road I worry whether their defense can stop other team's rushing attack. That will be tested this Sunday when they go to Carolina to take on the Panthers.
5. Detroit Lions (4-0): With back-to-back comeback wins on the road, the Lions have been the hottest team in the league so far this season. Now they get to reward their fans by playing a home Monday Night Football game against the rival Bears. Everything is right in Detroit...for now.
6. New York Giants (3-1): At the beginning of the season nobody could gauge how the Giants were going to do. After the first month it looks like they're going to be right in the thick of things come post season time. If they can get healthy they'll be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC.
7. San Diego Chargers (3-1): This is the best start to a Chargers season since I can remember. Now what they need to do is hold serve at home as well as beat the Raiders. If they do those two things they'll win the division for sure.
8. New York Jets (2-2): Head coach Rex Ryan said we're going to see the ground and pound philosophy this week when they take on the Patriots in Foxboro. Luckily for Gang Green they get their Pro-Bowl center back this week. This team just needs to get back to the basics and they'll be fine.
9. Houston Texans (3-1): Can you believe this?! The Texans are making an appearance on the DTTWSB power rankings this week. I'm still not a believer in them, but as of right now they're playing some pretty good football.
10. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2): Old age may be catching up to the Steelers this season. The offensive line issues continue to hurt them and have now hurt Ben Roethlisberger. If they can control the line of scrimmage once again they'll get right on track.
