Black Monday came early this year for the Dallas Cowboys as they fired head coach Wade Phillips this afternoon. With the way the Cowboys started, you knew Phillips was a "dead man walking", but I didn't think owner Jerry Jones would make the move during the season. The Cowboys 1-7 start has been one of its worse start since Jones bought the team in 1989.
Phillips has gotten a lot of the blame for the demise of the Cowboys but I feel that he isn't the only person that needs to go in Cowboyland. Jones has played a big part as well. He needs to step back from his general manager role and bring in a strong football mind to evaluate the players. There needs to be a complete overhaul of the roster.
I think we have all overrated the talent of the Cowboys. They are one of the worst teams in the league right now. The coaching staff should be wiped out as long as the players. Don't get me wrong, there have been a few players that have consistently played well but the majority have just quit. Ever since quarterback Tony Romo went down for what may be the entire season, the team has quit.
If you were to ask me what the best thing that could happen to the Cowboys, it would be to hire current Stanford head coach and former NFL quarterback Jim Harbaugh. The brother of Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. They need a young coach who will energize and discipline the them, and that's what Harbaugh would do. Whether they target him or not, it's up to Jerry Jones. The Cowboys are officially in rebuild mode.
